History of Personal Injury Law

The idea of personal injury law has been around for at least as long as man has been able to write. But what we think of today as personal injury law likely began in 1932 with the British case of Donoghue V. Stevenson. In this case the manufacturer of a ginger beer was found liable for a customer’s illness.

This settlement on behalf of the injured opened the door for other victims seeking compensation when someone’s or some company’s actions, or lack thereof, caused harm. Over time, attorneys specialized in this important area of law as they developed the skills, experience, and knowledge necessary to win such cases.
